ABOUT SHARK WEEK

Discovery Channel is returning to screens this summer with its much-loved celebration of sharks, with the 30th Anniversary of Shark Week.

Diving deeper than ever before from Sunday 22nd July, Discovery is working with some of the world’s most respected marine biologists and science institutions to bring brand-new groundbreaking shark research technology, and compelling insight on some of the most unique shark species in the world.

BEAR VS SHARK - SUNDAY 22 JULY, 8PM

Shark Week

Bear Grylls has survived the most extreme environments, from the frozen peaks of Everest to blazing sands of the Saharan desert, but what will happen when he goes head to head with sharks when they have the home field advantage? It will be his greatest test of wits and skill as the ultimate survivor faces off with the ocean’s apex predator.


SHARKS & THE CITY LA - SUNDAY 22 JULY, 9PM

Along the coastline of LA, great white sharks are increasing and they seem to be hunting out of season. Dr. Chris Lowe returns to Shark Week to find out why. His investigation takes him to Guadalupe Island, off Mexico, where he finds the answer.

Olympian, MMA champion and current WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey is trained by shark conservationist and shark attack survivor, Paul de Gelder, to face her fiercest opponent yet: the Mako shark. Ronda is out to prove that harnessing the fighting spirit she has developed throughout her career, she and everyone watching, can confront their greatest fears and be victorious in the face of those doubts.


TAGGING WITH THE STARS - TUESDAY 24 JULY, 8PM

Top celebrities join forces with top shark scientists to learn crucial information about the ocean’s top predators. With the latest in satellite technology and tagging, they will figure out where sharks feed, mate and have their young - critical information to conserving the species.


GREAT WHITE ABYSS - WEDNESDAY 25 JULY, 8PM

Shark experts Jimi Partington and Brandon McMillan embark on the first manned expedition to the darkest depths of the sea floor off Guadalupe Island, in search of the notorious 20-foot-long great white shark, Deep Blue.


AIR JAWS: THE HUNTED - THURSDAY 26 JULY, 8PM

The great whites known as “Air Jaws” have mysteriously vanished from their hunting grounds in South Africa. Has the world seen the last of these flying sharks? Or will photographer Chris Fallows find a new population of Air Jaws sharks in the waters off New Zealand?


LAIR OF THE SAWFISH - FRIDAY 27 JULY, 8PM

Shark Week

Luke Tipple returns to Shark Week with his team to unravel the mystery behind one of the sea's strangest creatures, the sawfish, from its evolutionary links to sharks and rays, to its key role in the marine ecosystem. Their goal is to bring the sawfish back from the brink of extinction.


CUBA'S SECRET SHARK LAIR - SATURDAY 28 JULY, 8PM

In 1945, one of the largest sharks ever recorded was captured in Cuban waters. This Great White was named ‘El Monstruo’, but sightings of huge sharks around Cuba didn’t end there. The phenomenon of massive sharks around Cuba puzzled scientists, but for years the island nation has been closed off to outsiders. Now, two teams of researchers have finally been granted permission to delve into the mystery of Cuba’s gigantic sharks.
